Halestone Dance Studio seeks to introduce students to the art-form of dance through a four-pronged approach in its Dance Studies courses. In each Dance Studies course, students apply themselves to understand the techniques of the selected style for that course. Halestone students also have the rare requirement of learning the theory behind creating or reproducing that particular dance style or movement. Theory is a valuable part of our curriculum that gives students the framework for comprehending the elements of all motion as well as the considerations that go into choreographic decisions. Further, Halestone expects students to combine their knowledge of theory with their technical training to create their own movement in the given style of the course. This facet of our Dance Studies courses fosters students’ creativity by challenging them to be original and move in previously unimagined patterns. Finally, all Dance Studies courses culminate in a performance experience during Halestone’s annual spring recital. Recital is a time when students share the art that they have been learning, practicing, and creating, with an audience of friends, family, and community. During recital preparations and performances, students learn how to effectively express themselves and share the art of dance through the structure of set choreography. Halestone Dance Studio finds that all four of these components of the Dance Studies program are equally vital for awakening the dancing artist in our students. We invite you to read the linked pages to find out about our course offerings and schedule to determine which courses might best speak to the dancing artist within you or your child.
