Production Assistance

A Production Assistant helps facilitate all the technical aspects of producing a dance performance.  For a Halestone/ CDCT performance, this may include activities like designing and preparing a set, preparing and maintaining costumes and makeup, operating stage lights, working with backstage crew, designing and compiling programs and advertisements, and managing dress and technical rehearsals.  A variety of experience and skills are desirable for an applicant to an internship as a Production Assistant, including significant experience in a theatre department, management/ business skills or experience, familiarity with Microsoft Publisher (or other publishing software), and organizational skills.

Arts Administration

Arts Administrators typically contribute to the marketing and fundraising efforts of the studio, as well as coordinating studio events.  At Halestone, an Arts Administration intern may fill a number of functions, including serving as the primary interface between the director and studio dance teachers, managing the Halestone/ CDCT website, preparing website publications, seeking funding for the CDCT through grants, and booking studio events.  A number of skills and experiences are advantageous for an applicant to an internship in Arts Administration with Halestone/ CDCT, including writing skills, website design/ maintenance experience, organizational skills, and facility in coordinating others.

Writing and Research

A Writing and Researching intern at Halestone will focus on producing written pieces of human interest on Halestone Dance Studio’s history and current practices.  The subjects of these pieces can include a variety of topics, like the history of the studio’s physical building, the current activities of Halestone and CDCT alumni, the history of dance and its perception/appreciation in the region, and the studio or company’s current efforts and projects.  Interns’ pieces are published on Halestone’s website, with the possibility of further publication in local papers.  Interns may also assist in writing brochures, advertisements, and grant requests.  Experience in journalism and creative writing are desirable qualities in applicants to the Writing and Researching internship.

Intern Positions

The Halestone Dance Studio and CDCT intern program provides an opportunity for future leaders in the world of dance to participate in activities rarely gound in other professional internships.  This intern program has the capacity to incorporate a number of subjects and skills, including Dance Education, Arts Administration, Stage Production, and Writing and Research. Halestone and The CDCT also encourage proposals from applicants with other skills that they believe could be useful to our program.  Internships are focused on some combination of these subjects, according to the skills and desires of the applicant.  The intern program can accommodate most applicants’ time-frames, however, the activities and foci available for interns are limited by the schedules and current activities of Halestone and the CDCT. Interns work with the director to design the best internship to accommodate their time-frame and interests along with the needs of Halestone and the CDCT.
