Class Description
Many of the greatest works of modern choreography are rooted in the dramatic storytelling tradition, such as Alvin Ailey's Revelations and Martha Graham's Appalachian Spring. Students will explore choreography while focusing on intentions behind movements and engaging the face to convey the emotions of the piece. Class exercises will include creating short dance adaptations of existing myths or fairy tales, and choosing costumes that reflect the intentions of the dance and enhance the choreography. 14+ Years Old. Before May 18th: $175 for the week After May 18th: $180 for the week McKelvey Courtney Collins is a playwright, choreographer, and stage manager originally from Lexington, Virginia, and currently based in New York City after earning her BFA at the New School for Drama. She has spent most of her life training in ballet, modern, jazz, and butoh at Halestone Dance Studio, and also served as an instructor during the 2020-2021 season. Previous works include Halestone’s Identity and Present Expressions Concerts. Her choreography was also seen on the New York stage in her professional playwriting debut, Depths of the Valley, for which she also served as producer, co-director, and costume designer.
